My high school (grades 9-12) of 1700 students has been on a modified block
schedule for three years. Monday & Friday we have six-55 min. periods. The
other days are "block" with four-90 min. classes. Each class meets four
times a week. Most teachers intensely dislike the schedule because (1)hard
to keep attention of low-level students that long; (2) hard to "keep classes
together", (3) confusing , and (4) they say students don't cover as much
material. Because of labs, science teachers like it. I think it works well
in the Media Center, as students can have time to really "get into" their
research. In a few days we're going to vote on whether to continue next
year--we have a new principal. I'm postive the vote will be against the
block. I really don't know what could have been done to make it more
acceptable to teachers.
