I just finished reading Eastern Sun, Winter Moon, the shocking memoir of Paulsen's childhood in the U.S. and Phillippines. What an amazing story! His family was incredibly dysfunctional and yet inspite of it, or perhaps because of it, he survived to become such a wonderful writer. It is definitely not to be read by students, but provides a terrific insight for those of us "peddling" Paulsen and gives a glimmer of hope for those who deal with children from dysfunctional homes. It was published by HBJ, 1993. What a read!
