Thanks to everyone who responded to my query about district-wide technology plans. Now under discussion in my district (5 high schools, 10 junior highs, & over 30 elementary schools and 3 alternative campuses) is the type of networking we will have in the future. Currently, we have Winnebago Circ or Circ/Cat in all of the libraries. All the high schools and a few jr. highs & elementaries have LANs. The question is whether or not we will continue to install individual networks within each library and use a union catalog or, to choose a new system (like Dynix or Galaxy) where everything is run from the district library services office. I'm also interested in districts that run networked CDs from one location to multiple campuses. Do you use towers or daisy-chained CDs? I'd like to hear from librarians who are currently using a wide area network run from a central location. I am concerned about speed and downtime. Any information that you can send me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Jan Thomas jthomas@tenet.edu Bowie High School Phone: 817-472-4443 2101 Highbank Drive Fax: 817-468-7767 Arlington, Texas 76018 "I can't live without books"...or computers! --Thomas Jefferson <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
