I think it is time to start using the Internet as a reference source. There are Gophers (and Web sites for those using browsers) that contain the equivalent of reference books on the Internet. Gopher (or telnet to a gopher) and look for a section on Internet resources. A little exploration will yield tons of material. One of the best lists around is at the University of Michigan: Clearinghouse of subject-oriented resource guides. The section: Guides on the Social sciences contains the Education lists, including the Education section of the Kovacs list (another very comprehensive list). The gopher address (URL) is: una.hh.lib.umich.edu. The section is inetdirs. The list is searchable. If you don't have gopher, but do have telnet, you can telnet to a public gopher site and get to the UMich gopher from there. If you don't know of a public gopher site, the Yanoff list of "Special internet connections" includes a list of gopher sites that allow telnet connections. The Yanoff list can be obtained by ftp and email: ftp: csd4.csd.uwm.edu cd /pub get inet.services.txt email: bbslist@aug3.augsburg.edu If you only have email, there are ways of searching and retrieving from FTP and Gopher sites, but it is too complex to describe here. It is also very frustrating to do. Cheers, Dan Robinson dan@info.hwwilson.com
