Did anybody see the Dr. Quinn episode tonight? The whole thing delt with the local public library and censorship. The Preacher started it all and they wanted to censor the following books: "The Vampire," "Civil Disobedience," "The Koran," "A book of poetry by Walt Whitman," and "The Scarlet Letter." The city council voted 4 to 1 to close the Public Library. The character "Jake" aka Mayor of this fine town can't even read, but he wanted the library closed. The writers of the show even had a little "Book Burning" party during the episode. But in the end Dr. Quinn stood up against Censorship by quoting stories from the Bible to show the people of this fine town that they were short sighted in their reasoning. Maybe ALA should consider giving Dr. Quinn the "Intellectual Freedom Award" this year....
