I am not condemning the movie or Disney's right to make money. My children will probably see it, will want to buy the video, and it will be shown in my house over and over again, as usual. I guess what I meant in a larger sense is the willingness of some teachers to use a movie, which "usually" distorts the facts somewhat, to teach history. I wouldn't advise a teacher use GONE WITH THE WIND to teach the Civil War (but it's used). I don't think John Wayne movies give a clear picture of the American West. As soon as Pocohontas began to be advertised, my saddening thought was that primary grade teachers will use this, and not explain/teach/compare. Disney does an excellent job of entertainment, that's their business. We are in the business of selection. Authoritative sources are first on my list. IMHO, this ain't it, just as Disney's THE JUNGLE BOOK wasn't the Jungle Book ! ********************************************* Gail Dickinson Union-Endicott Central School District Endicott, NY 13760 "between stimulus and response, we have a choice" --Stephen Covey
