I appreciate the many positive comments that I received on my Pocahontas thoughts this morning. There is another twist to my lesson. The last week of summer school we were doing a story about an opossum. I brought my Folktales puppet that I had recently purchased to use with the story. In reading the facts about the opossum that came on the pupplet's tag, I found that the word "opossum" came from the Powahatan Indians and the word means "little white animal". It's amazing how much can be taught to students on the basis of one movie. By the way, check out my home page which I downloaded just this morning. I plan to add more to it as the new school year progresses. The address is http://www.scott.net/~mlbuchan. Madeline L.
