Our new K12 media center is in the planning stages; hope to open Sept. '97. Plans are for evening and weekend hours open to the public as well as drop-ins during our school days. We are 20 miles from the nearest public library and will be a community resource as well as school. Our center will have only one certified staff during school hours (I know!!!!, but this won't change in spite of pleas); non-school hours are up for discussion. The center will be automated and have many resources involving new technologies, at least new to us. What concerns do we need to address now at this planning stage to accomodate public use? Have you opened your center this way? How do you work staffing and circulation? What about reference materials and reserves? Any information about public use would be appreciated as this is completely new territory for me.
