I have been following the discussion on summer reading and noted the many mystery writers listed. One of my favorites is Ellis Peters (Actually Edith Pargeter) who writes a series of mystery novels set in England in the 1140s. The detective is a monk in the monastery in Shrewsbery and uses his knowledge of herbs and natural medicines to help him with cases. Great for medieval lore. There are 19 so far.
