The Giving Tree is about co-dependency. Good ol' Shel is an old hippy and
wrote the story long before we started being concerned about this form of
negative behavior. I'm sure Shel was around during the Summer of Love and
it shows in many of this books. The Missing Piece is another bit of
negative thinking no longer "PC" in the '90's. I have a piece copied from
somewhere called The Other Giving Tree which contrasts the original
tree's behavior with another more assertive, tough-loving tree. If anyone
