Help! As a part of school reform in Oregon, each student will be required to maintain a portfolio that demonstrates they have mastered a variety of skills. In elementary and middle school, each student has a home room or advisory teacher who stores the portfolios, and who helps the students update them. At Tualatin High School, we do not have a system in place to handle this process, and we have a group of incoming freshman who are bringing portfolios from their middle school next fall! There has been talk of storing the portfolios in the media center because "librarians know how to organize things and have storage space." (I knew we were good for something.) Are there any high schools out there (especially in Oregon) that have come up with an answer to this problem? (If you are from Oregon, you will recognize that I am talking about the portfolios that students need to have to earn their Certificate of Initial Mastery.) I have already searched on AskERIC, but did not find a great deal of information about storing this type of portfolio for every student in the school. PLEASE if you have any brilliant (or even dim) insights, I would love to read about them. Please reply to me individually, and I will post a HIT if people indicate that they are interested and if I get some replies. My e-mail address is: ryanjb@teleport.com.
