REF: periodical article about catalogs

A ellow librarian is looking for a fairly recent [within the last 6-8
months] article that discussed the loss of information when going from
the old printed catalog card to the on-line catalog.  It specially
mentioned the lack of annotations in the newer cataloging.
She has looked in Readers Guide and some other sources but cannot find a
citation to this article.  Does anyone remember it or can tell me where
to look?   Thanks for your help.
