The cooling provided by fans on overheads and slide projectors not only cool the lamps or bulb but they also keep the bulbs from melting portions of the machines. Newer devices use bulbs that require diffeent cooling than older machines. It does not hurt to let a fan run after the machine is turned off. In addition a bulb is more likely to blow out if it is moved while it is hot. The best thing is to read the manual for every device you have. A new kodak is diffeent from a 25 year old Fairchild. Remember the worse thing is that if a fan does not come on at all, the bulb may work but after minutes you may see melt down. Tom Zarrilli Yeshiva Atlanta
