This may be partof an answer for Nancy who has problems with a modem that a teacher is using on a Performa 550 at home. The limiting aspect of comms speed with the LC series is not the modem but the serial port. I had this problem changing from a 14,400 to a 28,800 modem. I thought I'd get twice the speed but I didn't! Try configuring PPP at 19,200 (which is in fact one step more than the max 14,400 which an LC can achieve) and see what happens. If not, go for 14,400. I think the only solution apart from buying a serial port adaptor (expensive and a cludge) is to use a Power Mac which supports the 28,800 port speed. Hope this helps!
