research on student success

One of our teachers is studying the relationship between a mother's
level of education and her children's success in school. She said
one study seems to indicate that mothers with more education
have children who are more successful in school. This same study
seems to indicate that a father's level of education does not
affect their children as much. Her research is to determine if
this is true and why.

Does anyone know where additional information on this topic
could be found?
