I've done the Cat in the Hat by wearing all black, pinning on a black tail, wearing a gigantic bowtie made of two red fabric-coverd hangers wired together, and a gigantic top hat made of red-white striped and laminated construction paper stapled to a black hat at the brim. Paint on whiskers and you're a hit. I also have a Mother Goose costume with a long black with orange print skirt that I stapled poster board (2' wide) around the bottom to make the skirt stick out. Then I wear a frilly blouse with a apron that has a top and ruffles at the bottom and at the sleeve (it's orange). I also have a shawl I wrap around my arms with a black (recycled witch's hat) and a long narrow tan colored scarf sewn to the tip of the hat. I carry a basket with a stuffed goose and a Mother Goose book. I bought it all at Salvation Army. Oh, yes, I paint on big rosy cheeks and have big shoe buckles on my shoes. The kindergartners really enjoy her! Tongay Epp Elementary Media Specialist Columbus Public Schools 3418 15th Street Columbus, Nebraska 68601 email: tepp@gilligan.esu7.k12.ne.us
