Our district policy also explicitly states that challenged books remain
on the shelves during the review process.  Of course, another way that
has managed to circumvent this is that the review committee each needs a
copy of the book to read and they usually check them out from the school
libraries.  With 36 elementary schools, it doesn't have the effect of
taking all copies out of circulation, but, with only 6 high schools, it
usually does at that level.  Most of our challenges have been at the
elementary schools.
