English folktale?

Dear Netters:
I have a teacher looking for a folktale from his childhood in England.  These
are the details:  It is repeating, a tale about an old woman trying to take
her reluctant cow somewhere.  Then he remembers something about the sun
"drinking" water and then all kinds of successive things happen until the cow
is affected and jumps a fence headed to town.  If this sounds familiar to
