Dear LM_NET Colleagues, Recently I have had an inquiry about the status of AskERIC, the ERIC service that hosts LM_NET, K12ADMIN, and other education discussion groups, and also makes our archives available. Earlier in the year AskERIC (thus also LM_NET) was under the budget cutting axe, and members were asked to contact Congress. I recently checked with the Director of ERIC-IR at Syracuse University, the person also in charge of AskERIC, Dr. Mike Eisenberg, and asked for an update on ERIC funding. BTW-- Mike is also LM_NET co-owner/founder! ;-) Here is Mike's response: ERIC and AskERIC are included in funding for 1995-1996. It also looks like ERIC itself will be ok for 1996-1997. We don't fully know right now about AskERIC for 1996 - 1997 (starting in July 1996). So, the efforts of LM_NET and others made a difference. We aren't completely out of the woods - and we might need help in the future - but we are much better than it looked months ago. -------- Peter Milbury, Librarian Chico Senior High School, Chico, CA "http://www.chs.chico.k12.ca.us/" ............................................................................
