This is the year for science curriculum revision and possible textbook adoption grades K-12 in our school district. Before the committee begins evaluation the dreaded "tote books", I'd like to expose them to some other kinds of science curriculum materials, especially those using technology like Windows on Science, CNN Videolink, computer software, etc. My plan is to bring the committee together at regular intervals throughout the fall and winter for brief presentations from vendors about these products. My science expertise ends at about grade six, so I am appealing to you for suggestions. What programs, etc. are you using in science at any grade level? Are any of you using the laserdisc physical science program for ninth grade developed several years ago? Do any of you have suggestions for vendor presentations? I would greatly appreciate any ideas you may have to help me. It seems such a waste of taxpayer's money to spend a half million dollars for science textbooks that will be outdated before we receive them. We can spend this money on any science materials we choose, so I'd really like for the teachers to know what their options are before they ever see the first textbook for examination.
