Some of you out there are pretty darn crazy - here are some ideas to use
today!:

no more fines; you can keep your books, no need to return them; person who has
the most overdues will get $100.00; come to the lib for a free book--today we
are giving away all of the library books;???

It is fun to decorate the media center on April Fool's Day with holiday
pictures for all the different holidays--jack-o-lanterns, Santa,
valentines, all mixed together. If you have a small Christmas tree that
can be set up and taken down quickly, it also makes a good April Fool
display, especially decorated with cut-outs of ghosts, hearts, shamrocks,
etc. Also, display a variety of holiday books that day. We have also done
prank morning announcements--all books checked out today will be due last
Friday, teachers wishing to check out a VCR must present a drivers'license
and two major credit cards, etc.

well...i donno that you could pull this one off any more but several
years ago i sent out a memo that looked like it came from the computing
guru's office. it told all the secretaries that there would be a general
cleaning of computer files at 11 a.m. At that time, all the offices
would be required to put their telephone handsets on top of their
computer monitors. A program would be run and the debris would be blown
out of the system. If they wanted, they could request plastic bags from
the guru's office to contain any floating particles.
He got several calls asking for plastic garbage bags...and i got a good
laff! <g>

ANNOUNCEMENT:
Will the person who left the 2 lamas in the parking lot (science lab?
computer lab? home ec room? Mr. Jones' room? cafeteria? on the roof?)
please come remove them from the area. Livestock are not allowed on
campus.
Get a friend to call the office early, using her or his best radio
dispatcher voice from ...."Acme Trucking to say that we are calling in
advance to let you know that the driver just called in and he's about a
half hour away. He is delivering the 2 lamas. (chickens? peacock? shark
in a tank? reptiles for the biology lab? new library furniture? shipment
of tennis rackets?..."

Telling a story backwards is one prank I read about somewhere
on LM_Net recently!

The principal has an overdue book with a fine of $784.72

I have put a sign on the book return, "Hole Broken". It panics a lot of
people. I've only had one person ask me how a hole could be broken.
I've also "doctored" pictures of the library with PhotoShop/PhotoDelux,
putting animals in the chairs. That's gotten a lot of comments.

Once I sent out a notice to all staff that there was a new toxic chemical in
eraser dust and that they should turn their erasers into the main office.
Many did and didn't ask for them until days later. It got quite a few
laughs.
