GEN: Passover

Can anyone tell me why Passover lasts for 8 days?  I know why Chanukkah
lasts for 8 days.  I know the history of Passover.  I have checked
many sources and have not turned up an answer to this question.  Also, I
would like to receive recommendations of read aloud books for
Passover...picture books or primary level books.  My personal
recommendation for a 4th grade and up is Yolen's *Devil's Arithmetic*.
