Automation packages

My school system has been using Columbia for several years and would like
to make a change.  Our computer specialist, who is in charge of library
automation, would like input as to the different types of software packages
available and their advantages and disadvantages so he can make a wise
decision.  He is very interested in knowing why librarians choose
particular programs when they decide to automate.
