GEN: yearlong loans

We've all had the experience that the teacher who requests purchase of =
something-or-other then expects to KEEP it in the classroom forever.  =
You did well to establish the fact that library purchases are for LOAN =
to BORROWERS, not for anyone to keep forever.

I would suggest that the second part of the process might be to =
publicize these new purchases widely, perhaps adding a list of similar =
materials already available.

And to show that teacher--who may be embarrassed--that although you are =
not giving up your point you are not harboring ill feelings, you might =
watch as the year progresses for something to share.  A few books to =
examine, a printout from the WWW, a catalog of relevant materials, a =
professional magazine with an interesting article...
