Dear LM_Netters, As I begin in the junior high, I am ready to set some fresh, new policies. We have a flex-schedule day, and a fully automated system. As teachers begin a unit, such as mythology, should the teacher check out the whole collection of myth books, take to the classrooms, and from that point the teacher does a check in and out system on paper? Or should I set aside a cart of books on myth to help students readily find the books or should I just put together a helpful list of resources and have the list readily available for student quick reference? I believe the best option is to teach students how to dig--on the computer card catalog and then proceed from there, maybe with a shorter time allowed to check one of these books out. I want students to learn to think for themselves on just where they might find a particular book or topic, of course with teacher quidance. What do you think?
