ANNOUNCING........

                  The 1996 SIG/Tel Contest Winners

SIG/TEL, the ISTE Special Interest Group for Telecommunications,
recently held its 6th annual Telecomputing Activity Plan Contest.
Entries were received from educators all around the world and judged by
an international panel of educational telecommunications specialists.
The goal of the contest was to identify and recognize educators
who have developed innovative applications of telecommunications
technology in their classrooms.

The winners will receive:

* NetManage Internet Chameleon from NetManage Inc.
* a subscription to Multimedia Schools Magazine from Information
  Today, Inc.
* a subscription to Classroom Connect or a publication from Classroom
  Connect or International Thompson Publishing, and
* a one-year membership in ISTE and SIG/Tel

The top prize winner, Sandra Hildreth, will also receive a Hayes Modem.
All of the prizes are intended to support the further professional
development of these innovative educators so that we may all continue to
benefit from their creativity and productivity.

All of the winners are invited to share their projects during SIG/Tel
Exemplary Projects sessions at both Tel-Ed '96 and NECC '97.  The winners
will be recognized during the SIG/Tel Annual Meeting held during Tel-Ed
'96 and NECC '97 and SIG/Tel will be publishing the winning entries in the
quarterly journal, TIE News, during the coming year as well as on the
ISTE website.
