This term is what I (not originally my idea) call the position too many
refer to as Indian style. I tell them that we call it this because if
they are sitting that way, with their eyes open, ears open and mouths
shut, then they will learn. In today's parlance, "It's a structuring
thang.". As behavior (appropriateness of) is maintained flexibility may
be allowed ("flexibility" - get it?). Sorry, the only puns I make are
unintentional and I can not resist noticing them afterwards. Anyways,
over the years I have noticed fewer kids insisting upon using the term,
"Indian Style". Whenever one does I just go into my "I don't know any
Indians who sit like that!" tirade and then talk about behavior and learning.
