TARGET: How to store and retrieve "information gems"?

What are your methods for the storage and retrieval of information you
read on lists like this one? At first I stored stuff on disks, but the 
filenamesweren't long enough, of course, to tell me what I had! Then I cut and 
pasted
and printed out, storing information in a notebook which got very fat with
pages having only a paragraph or so on them. Does anyone have a good storage
and retrival system for the pertinent, but often very short, items on lists?
