Jan,
I couldn't have said it better !  I worked through the summer on one of
my two media centers  without getting paid. Yes we are here for the
children; however, I have one very important child in my private life to
whom I am first and foremost dedicated. The time and effort of setting up
a library for the school year should be an expectation for the media
specialist. However, we are responsible for an entire school population,
not just a classroom of 30 students. We should be compensated for that
extra time, effort and just downright hard work.
