I am looking for a place to find out who owns what smaller companies.
Take, for example, Dow Corning--is there somewhere **out there** that I can
find out the names of the companies that Dow Corning (just, an example
here, mind you!!) owns
thanks, Trish Feld, Waterbury, Vermont

Trish,

The main source that will help you with this is Standard & Poor's. It is
priceless for those companies that are part of huge corporations, as well as
finding out the various holdings of the corporations.

Other sources include Hoover's, and Dun's. (Sorry, I can't remember the exact
titles, but this is how they're referred to.)

If your library doesn't own these, try either your local library (probably the
headquarters library, if you're part of a library system) or a college which
has a business major.
