ELEM: Weeding "classic" literature

We need to weed our entire library.  The fiction collection has many
volumes of authors like Estes, DeJong, etc.  These have tradition and
classic value, but I find that the kids don't read them--in fact many of
our younger teachers aren't familiar with them either.  It is very hard for
me to weed them for discard, though.  Any suggestions, thoughts,
experiences you could share to help us through this dilemma?
