GEN: unknown poem

I received this message from a parent:
        "My father was born in 1908, died in 1989.  He used to recite
this to us when we were very young.  We would like to know the title,
author, and the rest of the poem.

        'T'was a summer day in winter,
        the snow was rainin' fast,
        A barefoot boy with his shoes on
        Stood sittin' in the grass.
