A heartfelt thank you to those who took the trouble to respond to a
somewhat off the point message (although curriculum tie-ins
immediately came to mind when reading some of the responses)
My colleague was both impressed with the wit and willingness of the
profession as well as the power of this list.
Again, thank you.
For those who were interested, the replies follow.
Regards,

Well since the 60's were a pretty exciting decade, she could do
something with that. Music of the sixties, or something.

Check your greeting card sections. I recently attended a 50th and
there is a set of greeting cards that go by the year you were born,
listing people and things that happened then. It's not the first
time I've seen them. If I can find them in Corning they should be in
the city.

Two obvious ones that you've probably already thought of are wine &
cheese.

Hi Linda--
Not sure if this is what you mean but how about
        wine
        champagne
        coins
        postage stamps
        savings bonds
        memories
        parcels of land
        automobiles?

I don't know. I'm trying to think while I type this list. All but
the
"memory" one have grown more valuable in terms of $$. Sounds like a
neat project!

Aloha - the sixtieth birthday is also when one has completed a full
cycle of the Chinese years of the different animals. There are 12
animals, and each of the twelve is also ruled by earth, metal,
water, fire, or wood. So, if your friend was born in 1936, they were
born in the year of the "fire rat", and this is the first time since
1936 it has been the year of the fire rat again. There is a book by
Theodora Lau on chinese horoscopes that lists all the
characteristics of the various years.

I did something like this last year and found "The Timetables of
History" 3rd rev. ed. by Bernard Grunn. ISBN 0-671-74271-X Simon &
Schuster. This book lists events by category and year. Later I
discovered a greeting card type book in my local Target store. I
believe the titles were along the lines of "I was born in 19xx.
Good Luck with the list.

Linda, Last month I received a birthday card that said "60 - 6
Perfect 10's." Since I love ice-skating, it really amused me. There
are two magazines for us "elderly" Mature Outlook and Modern
Maturity. Each month they list people who have turned 50, 60 and
over. Maybe you can get some ideas from that.

Linda,
How about collecting 60 greetings from the Internet? If she
decides to do this, I'll be happy to send one!
