We have received information indicating that Title VI has been completely
cut from the federal budget. Many of us use this money to buy books and
some of us won't have any budgets at all if this cut goes through. Other
cuts include Title I 17%, Perkins Vocational Education 18%, Safe and Drug
Free Schools 25%, Eisenhower Math and Science 25%, and Goals 2000 25%.
We have been told that if we do not write beofre March 15th these cuts
will become permamenet. We have been encouraged to attend a town meeting,
invite a member of Congress to your school, and call - write - and e-mail
your member of Congress. Contact your newspaper, TV stations. Invite
parents in and tell them how the cuts will affect you. I have a packet of
material that I would be happy to fax to you. If interested, please send
me your fax number and I will get it to you.
