Here are the responses I received regarding Internet Scavenger Hunts. I found a few sample hunts by doing a search on the 'Net. Some are quite lengthly. If you would like that file please send me an e-mail request. I hesitate to post them to the list due to their length. Thanks to all who responded. ******************** Gail M. Szeliga Internet:uehslib1@transit.nyser.net ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HIT> Internet Scavanger Hunt I'm not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for but I have an area on my home page called Net Power that allows users to either search on their own to find the answers to questions or click on the answer and go directly to the site. There are ten questions and you might like using the names I've given for levels of correct answers: Cybernaut, Navigator, Hitchiker, and Newbie http://www.smartpages.com/worldlink/worldlink.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I went over to my home page and checked the questions for this month and I believe they would be just right for high school students. They could even use the search tools on my home page to find the answers. I believe all the sites this month are web pages. In the past I mixed in some gopher sites. If you don't want them to click on the answers, just print out the questions and turn them loose. Then at the end if anyone is curious about answers they couldn't find, point them to the home page. And there may be more than one site for the answer: example French English dictionary has more than one place, but I chose what I though to be the nicest one. The hardest one to find will be the one on the common cold. It is imbedded in a quiz on the common cold sponsored by Warner Lambert makers of such products as Actifed. Some of the questions on the common cold are pretty neat so you may want to pass this on to a science Warner Lambert makers of such products as Actifed. Some of the questions on the common cold are pretty neat so you may want to pass this on to a science teacher. The Beakman and Jax home page has some pretty "cool" questions that would appeal to high school students. Although the Sony home page is not part of this month's net power, there are some awesome video clips. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Hi! I printed one off from somewhere a while back. Here it is: The purpose of the Scavenger Hunt is to both educate and entertain by encouraging research on the World Wide Web. All answers to questions must be obtained via the Web and include full URLs and the specific location of the answer within the page. 1. What company sponsors Mike Wallace's NASCAR racing team? 2. What is the name of ZZ Top's first album and in what year was it released? 6. At what museum will you find The Migration Series on exhibit, and who released? 7. On what date did musician Jeff Beck play at Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA? 8. Is a reservation necessary for a campus tour of Smith College? 9. What team did the Cleveland Browns play on August 6, and where? 10. Name three different references to the term quark. 11. What is the cost of a pavilion seat ticket to a San Francisco Giants game? 12. Mark Thomas is a professor in what department at the University of Virginia? 13. (Be specific) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi! There was a brief Internet Hunt In _Classroom Connect_ magazine Summer 1995 issue. This is an excellent magazine, think it costs $29.00 year and they have a page on WWW where you can maybe get some more info, if you email them, they might send you a copy of the 6 question scavenger hunt, the email adress to request a free sample is:connect@wentworth.com; the www site to search is: http://www.wentworth.com; to see if you can retrieve is through another email address, try: info@wentworth.com and in the body of the message, type: send index. The title of the article is: "For the Teacher: Internet Scavenger Hunt" Hope this helps. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Last summer my sons took a course on the WWW at the Sheldon Institute at SUNY Oswego. The instructor, whose name MAY be Don(?) Eartz, has the address deartz@mailbox.syr.edu He was a wonderful teacher and the kids loved him and worked hard. One thing they did was a scavenger hunt for which I have the answers but not the questions. It is probably no longer accurate anyway due to the changing nature of the Net. Send him a note and ask him for suggestions. I believe there is a source from which he got his questions but I may be wrong. Good luck!
