At the risk of sounding immodest, I could recommend my late husband's book for those interested in World War II. He was shot down over Havelte in the Netherlands while returning from a bombing mission in Vechta, Germany-a suspected rocket site. He spent the last eight months of the war with the Dutch underground. He taught weaponry to the Dutch. He waded out to Engelsmanplaat, a Friesian island in the North Sea, in November and waited to be picked up by the British. After waiting for two weeks, he walked back to the mainland. It is a personal narrative detailing his experiences. The title is *The Evader : An American Airman's Eight Months With the Dutch Underground* by Harry A. Dolph. It is published by Eakin Press of Austin, Texas. It was the Reader's Digest condensed book in January of 1994. I traveled with him to the Netherlands on four occasions to research the book and helped in the editing process. I learned much about the book business helping him cope with the many rejection slips and constant rewriting. You might have to look for this one as it is not in all the stores or libraries although it is still in print.
