Vacation is over, but if you still have some time to read, I recommend Patchwork, by Karen Osborn. This first novel chronicles the lives of three generations of a family (mostly the women) from a South Carolina mill town. The setting is so well depicted the reader can see the cotton fibers in the air and hear the incessant noise of the looms. Most of the characters are not educated, but their hopes and dreams and life challenges are universal. Audrey Glick Monroe Traditional Middle School aglick@freenet.columbus.oh.us
