Sixth Annual Children’s Literature in Curriculum Conference

Every Person a Reader: Reading for Pleasure Leads to Reading Competency

This full day conference will address the interests and needs of classroom
teachers, library media specialists, administrators, curriculum coordinators,
consultants, and parents.  Anyone who loves good literature, who works with
children, or who is implementing or exploring literature-based curriculum
for pre-kindergarten through middle-school students will find this conference
motivational and beneficial.

Scheduled speakers include:

*Willy Welch, Author of PLAYING RIGHT FIELD (Scholastic, 1995; illus. by Marc
Simont)

*Doris Simpson, Director of Education and Development for the PBS series,
WISHBONE; Ms. Simpson will provide activities for integrating WISHBONE’s books
and TV episodes into the curriculum;

*Jeanette Larson, Youth Services Consultant, Texas State Library.  Ms. Larson
will lead sessions on the Governor'’s Reading Challenge and introduce new
 books that are eligible for the Newbery Award, 1997.

*Cathy Roach, Librarian, Dallas ISD.  Dr. Roach will offer curriculum
materials and project ideas for the AMERICAN GIRL’S series.

*Marybeth Green, Librarian, North East ISD, San Antonio.  Ms. Green will
suggest activities to promote reading.

*Plus additional speakers to be announced.

*Books discussed by speakers will be available for sale.

Registration starts at 8:00; programs end at 3:00.  Lunch, handouts, and
other goodies are included in the registration fee.  Check MUST accompany
registration.
