Target: tape recorders for whole class

Hi out there in cyber space.

I have been asked by our foreign language department to find a tape recorder
with a counter that is loud enough for a whole classroom to clearly hear the
words the tape is repeating.  None of the tape players we now have can do
that without causing too much interference or distortion.

Anyone have any suggestions?  TIA
