The winners of the Virginia Young Readers award for 1996 were:
        Primary (K-2)-Dogzilla by Dav Pilkey
Elementary (3-5)-A Haunting in Williamsburg by Lou
Kassem
Middle (6-8)-The Giver by Lois Lowry
High (9-12)-Just like Martin by Ossie Davis
Winners are selected by children voting across the state after
they have read at least 4 of the nominated books. Books are
nominated by a committee made up of librarians, teachers,
reading specialists, and bookstore owners from titles suggested
by the committee members as well as nominations from children,
teachers, and students in Virginia. Books must have been
published within the last five years.

I would be glad to answer any questions anyone may have on the
process and how the books are publicized.
