Thanks to all who answered my post! Most of you, as I am, did not feel cards
belonged in the Media Center. I particularly liked the logic of one person
who said (re letting kids "just experiment" on CD-ROM's) - "If a student
were looking for Social Studies info in the 500's - wouldn't you, as a media
professional, direct them to the correct section?" The problem is, there's
NO LOGIC involved here, it's more political and "power-oriented".

My principal ALSO told me NOT to ask student's what their assignments were
when they came in with passes, even if I saw them just reading newspapers,
magazines or chatting for 90 min! (We are on 90 min block schedule). When I
protested that this allowed students to just waste time, her reponse was
"That's the teacher's problem! Tell the teacher!".

Oh, I forgot to mention. I'm my high school's ONLY Teacher's Union Steward!
;-) I've filed a few recent grievances, etc. etc. I also have 25 years of
experience in the field, so I KNOW what she is telling me to do is way off base!
However, because there was always the chance that I was the one "just not
getting it", I decided to post to the listserv. You've been great! Thanks,
again.
