Detention Center MC/Professional Organizations

Persistence pays off!  My MC is finally on line!  We are a Dade County (FL)
public school housed in the county Juvenile Detention Center.  I've been
reading postings for several weeks now but have yet to see any discussion or
queries from similar facilities.  Anyone else out there in a
prison/detention center setting?  After six years of operating on a
shoestring, I may have some information, ideas, innovations that others in a
similar program can use.  Would love to have an exchange.  My "boyz" have
been diving head first into the Internet.  With supervision, they can
navigate rather nicely and are really excited about the sites we can
explore.  Right now we're tracking hurricane Bertha online.  We'd love to
correspond with other students (especially those who may be incarcerated).
Getting mail instantly (and not having it pre-opened and searched) really
appeals to them.  Hope this will stimulate some response.

Also...I will be heading up our media specialists' assn. this year.  We are
always looking for new ideas, themes and projects to present at our
well-attended membership meetings.  Any suggestions will be greatly
appreciated. TIA.
