I have a word of warning for all of you about installing and deinstalling
Netscape... Netscape is much like MS-DOS in the fact that it moves
around through your computer while installing and can end up in some
strange places...
I made the mistake of installing my original version of Netscape under
my Windows directory. When I tried to install a version provided by AT&T,
it indicated that it had found another version of Netscape and would I like
that version uninstalled (in order to install the AT&T version) - I said yes,
and it proceeded to erase all the files under Windows that had any piece
of Netscape buried there... without any regard for whether they were
documents, application programs, or initialization files - Boom! They ALL
went away. . .it deletes the directories and does not care what's inside!
MS-Works and many files (word processor documents) were erased...
A short discussion with AT&T today indicates that what happened to me is
exactly how the software is supposed to work when the deinstallation process
is selected.

I know that many of you are writing and requesting assistance in the
installation
process and not the deinstallation of Netscape. . .but I want to pass on that
through your experimentation - ALWAYS put the Netscape stuff in a directory
by itself ... and make sure that none of what is required to run Netscape gets
out of that directory to any other place because there may come a time when
you want to take that version off through the deinstallation process and you
want ONLY that piece of your hard drive to be affected. . .

A final warning...authority figures in one business might be idiots in
another...
AT&T might be a phone giant, but I'll never trust them near my computer again!
It isn't their software - which is all the more reason that they should
completely
test the piece that they are distributing for glitches and possible disasters!
I am following the whole incident through with another message to Netscape...

Buyer beware...!

Aloha...
