The title is _Sophie's World, a novel about the history of philosophy_ by
Jostein Gaarder.  I know about this book courtesy of a public library
children's librarian who loaned it to me recently from her personal
collection.  It is Gaarder's first book to appear in English. It was a
bestseller in Scandinavia and Germany.  Great summer reading, but I don't
think it's a kid's book--at least not our spoon-fed American
ones.....homeschoolers, maybe....
