I started a library for our district's HS for *at-risk* students. These students are behind in earning credits, have dropped out previously, or were the invisible low-achieving students on their home campuses (which are all over 2100 students) The kids at our school (Progressive HS) are not the ones expelled for discipline--in fact, discipline is not a problem. Motivation is! I started the collection based on student surveys and teacher requests. Not surprisingly, nonfiction and weekly magazines were what kids wanted. Leisure reading requests were most often for romances. So now, I need to find new projects for bringing kids in. Has anyone found something workable? I have a CD-ROM they like to use, and will have net access. (The student ethnicity is a good mix of Hispanic, Anglo, and Black.) Please post any ideas to me at this address:leel@tenet.edu Lee LeGrand Librarian, Progressive HS Missouri City, TX (Fort Bend ISD)
