I spent yesterday at a school library telling stories to my favorite audience (3rd to 5th graders). At lunch, the librarian - a long timer - and I lamented the wail of many new librarians ---- there is often no curriculum guide to tell us even the basics of what needs to be taught. I know I was thrown in head first after 10 years away from education with only the poster from _Information Power_ on what to teach in which grades to assist me. Talk about a humbling experience!! :-) I have read the curriculum guides for the teachers here and they are extremely vague and relatively useless and that's not just my opinion. Does anyone out there have a curriculum guide for your district - or something similiar - given to new librarians delineating what needs to be taught? I know there are a few books out there on skills but has anything been added regarding teaching OPAC? I have not seen anything per se. I am not with the schools any more, but I am afraid my heart will always be there. We are such a close knit community, we librarians here, that I feel obligated to assist in this cause. If you have one you are filling to share, I will gladly reimburse postage myself. Best to all - thanks to all the cheery welcome back notes, I am feeling much better about life in general...thanks to everyone who responded!!! We are 15 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time - livin' in the future --ain't it grand! Slainte! May today bring a great new story for your repertoire!
