REF: Book of counted sorrows in Koontz book

One of our students is reading Dark Rivers of the Heart by Dean Koontz.
Several chapters start with quotes/passages from The Book of Counted
Sorrows--but credit is not given on the title page/copyright page. So, is
The book of Counted Sorrows a real book or a Koontz creation? (The
student says there are passages in other books by Koontz, too.)
