REF: ABILITY GROUPING IN SCHOOLS

Dear netters:

The 8th grade students in my junior high are required to do a computer
search as part of their research process. The student request below is for
one of those research projects. If you have any information that might help
we would be grateful for the direction. If your school has eliminated
ability grouping and replaced it with something else, your summary of that
program and its results would be beneficial.


My name is Kim Spitz. I am working on a research paper on "ability
gouping". Mostly, I am looking for information that tells about different
alternatives to "ability grouping" or "tracking". I have found some
information and so far I've concluded: not everyone benifits from ability
grouping. I think there should be some other way of grouping the students
without making anyone feel badly about themselves.
