Hey, we found it. . . Damon Runyon coined the phrase the "Big Apple" for NYC in the 1920s ... Charles Gillett revived the term in the 1970s for a publicity campaign (since he was a jazz fan, he knew the Big Apple stood for the best and the biggest) ... Newsday article in the 12-07-95 issue...
