Peter's phone calls: Food for thought

Many have said that Peter owes us an explanation, or an apology, for his
late-night phone calls to California.

Why?  What can we, the readers of LM_NET, reasonably expect from the list
maintainers, who provide a free service for us all?

And why is this any of our concern?  How does their squabble affect any of
the rest of us?  And why should any of us care?

Each of us should make sure that we can reasonably answer these questions
before we get up in arms about any given issue.
